Child Minding combined with Organic Gardening: We have a position available at An Charraig for a volunteer who would be happy to mind children and work with them on their projects in the mornings and work on the organic gardens in the afternoon. We have four children, three girls and one boy, and their ages are between 8 and 2. These children do not go to school, and learn mostly at home.We would expect this volunteer to work five days a week, Monday to Friday, from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. We will provide accommodation and meals. It is important to us that we are happy as parents with the person who minds our children, and it is also important to us that our children are comfortable with this person. Therefore it would be necessary for this volunteer to come to us for a trial period, before committing to a longer stay. A trial period could be a week to two weeks. If it worked out, we would be happy to keep someone for up to one year.
Killeany Lodge Pilgrim Hostel: On occasions, a volunteer position is available at Killeany Lodge Pilgrim Hostel. This hostel has 26 beds and an acre of gardens. The hostel attracts groups with a spiritual orientation and also individuals. The gardens include a plastic tunnel where organic produce is grown. Aisling Árann requires one person (or a couple who would share one room) to help manage the hostel and grow the vegetables. The hostel is open from Easter to the end of October. The growing season is from March to October. The volunteer(s) will receive accommodation, food and a generous pocket money allowance. Contact: lodge@aislingmagazine.com
Construction and Maintenance: There is also a volunteer opportunity for someone with building construction and maintenance abilities. We look for someone with a practical orientation who is happy to help with carpentry, wiring, plumbing, painting and other construction, repair and maintenance jobs. Depending on the jobs needing to be done at any particular time, this could be short-stay (two weeks minimum) or long-stay (up to one year). We offer bed and board at An Charraig in return for this work. Contact: ancharraig@aislingmagazine.com
